About me
Summer 2015 w/ my daughter
|
2020-21 is my 14th teaching. I've been teaching IB chemistry my whole time at SHS (as well as Concepts in Advanced Science (CASci)) along with general chemistry.
Additionally, I'll continue sharing responsibilities as a science department co-chair. I have 2 degrees (BS and MS) in chemistry as well as National Board Certification for Teaching (granted Fall 2014). |
Who Am I |
I settled in the PNW in Nov. 1999 after living in various regions of the US (MI, IN, AL, TX, CA). I'm married to an educator (Ann) and have a high school aged daughter (Maddie) as well as my stepson (Stephen) who graduated UW.
I'm a bit jock as well as a bit nerd (or a lot of both): Love science as well as my activities (skiing, basketball, working out, hiking, camping) |
My History |
I grew up in the Midwest (Michigan & Indiana) going to high school in Ft. Wayne and college at Ball State University (Muncie, IN). After graduating with a BS in Chemistry, I started graduate school at Auburn University (Auburn, AL). My mentor left AU, I too left moving to Texas Tech University (Lubbock, TX) where I earned my MS in Organic Chemistry.
I worked as a medical chemist in San Diego for about 2 years before moving to Seattle where I worked for Pathogenesis/Chiron/Novartis (Patho was bought by Chiron which was later bought by Novartis) as a process chemist working on oncology drugs (Raf265). Once I knew Novartis was going to close down our Seattle site, I went to Pacific Lutheran University through their Alternate Route to Certification (ARC) to earn my teaching certificate. I did my student teaching at Issaquah High School in 2006-07 with my first position at Eastside Catholic (old campus) teaching General Chem, Honors Chem and AP Chem. I returned to Issaquah High where I taught chemistry as well as geometry. At the end of that year, there were layoffs and I was recalled to Skyline to teach IB Chemistry. I've been happily at Skyline ever since (Fall 2008). |
